NIE suspends meter reading in Creggan

NORTHERN Ireland Electricity (NIE) has been called on to “clarify” threats it claims have been made against meter readers in Derry.

NIE said it had temporarily withdrawn its meter readers from the Creggan area of the city due to the alleged threats.

However, local elected representatives, Sinn Fein Cllr Kevin Campbell and Independent Cllr dissident republican leader Gary Donnelly, have said they were unaware of such threats and called on the power supply company to “clarify” the alleged threats.

NIE said it would be issuing customers with “estimated” bills until further notice.
