Dectives at Ardmore CID in Newry appeal for information over attempted murder in Warrenpoint

DETECTIVES have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 38-year-old man was arrested at Springfield Road, Warrenpoint, Co Down around 1.30 am on Friday morning.

He is also being quizzed about possession of an offensive weapon.

The arrest was made after a 48-year-old man was found beaten in the town.

The victim was taken to the Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry for treatment to his injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.
