Antrim Crown Court grants confiscation order against Mary Duffin for £10k she falsely claimed in benefits

THE Social Security Agency Financial Investigation Unit obtained a Confiscation Order for over £10,000 against a woman at Antrim Crown Court on Friday.

Mary Duffin, of Dearmore Park, Moira, Co Antrim, had claimed Severe Disablement Allowance.

She claimed this benefit as she was incapable of working due to disability.

During the 52-year-old’s claim to benefit the defendant had failed to declare that she had been in full time employment.

Due to her failure to report her true circumstances she received £13,451 in benefits she was not entitled to over a four year period.

The defendant pleaded guilty in February to four charges of failing to declare her true circumstances.

At the confiscation hearing the Court granted a Confiscation Order in amount of £10,734 with a sentence of six months in default of non-payment.

She has until March 13, 2014 to satisfy the order or faces going to prison for six months.
