Joe Gormley’s double strike gives the Reds a 4-2 win over Linfield at Windsor Park

MANY believe that Linfield and Cliftonville would be the two teams who would be competing for the Danske Bank Irish Premier League at the end of the season.

But going by this performance, it looks like Cliftonville still have the hunger that helped them win the league last season.

Cliftonville went 2-0 up thanks to hot shot striker Joe Gormley – that’s four in two games for the Reds man.

But a stunning James Knowles free kick from 25-30 yards outside the box past keeper Devlin helped Linfield go in a 2-1 down at half time.

Linfield had two good shouts for penalities but referee Colin Burns didn’t award them to the Blues.

In fact, Aaron Burns was booked for diving even though Linfield thought it was a stone wall penalty.

In the second half, Burns got a goal to put them back on level terms.

It was game on but Cliftonville’s substitute Dermot O’Carroll broke the hearts of Linfield fans with goals on 76 and 92 minutes.

The game was over and Linfield leave south Belfast with three more points to bring back to Solitude.
