Wanted prisoner arrested after he jumps from window and injures wrist

A MAN unlawfully at large from Maghaberry jail has been arrested after jumping from a first floor window in a bid to escape capture by police.

The 32-year-old was in a flat in Callan Street, Armagh, when officers came to arrest him on Wednesday afternoon.

The wanted man leapt out the window, injuring his wrist in the process, and ran off towards Culdee Green.

Police pursued him on foot and caught him at Culdee Terrace 15 minutes later.

The man had been out of jail on licence but it was revoked.

He was wanted in relation to offences in Newtownabbey, Armagh and Lurgan from last year.

Police arrested him on of suspicion of:

* burglary at Rickamore Road Upper, Ballyclare, on 6 June;

* making off without paying from a service station on Avenue Road, Lurgan, on 12 June;

* and dangerous driving on College Hill, Armagh, on 9 June.

He is currently in custody being questioned by police.

The three offences he has been arrested for are separate offences from those he was imprisoned for.

Constable Campbell, of Armagh Response, said: “We would like to thank the community for their support during this incident.

“This is another example of how successful we are at tackling crime when we work in partnership with local neighbourhoods.

“Through support and information from the public we have been able to bring a convicted criminal back into custody,” added the officer.
