DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch have seized a gun in east Belfast during a search in connection with dissident republican activity.
Army bomb experts were tasked to the scene following the discovery of what police said was suspicious object.
It was found in Mountforde Drive in the nationalist Short Strand district.
The gun has now been taken away for forensic testing and also a ballistic test to see if it has been used in any previous dissident republican gun attacks.
Residents who were evacuated from their homes to a nearby community centre have been allowed to return as the security alert has now ended.
