MAN ON EAST BELFAST RAPE CHARGE REMANDED IN CUSTODY

Man remanded in custody on rape charge

A MAN faced a court today charged with raping a woman at the weekend in east Belfast.

Gary Thomas Baker stood in the dock of Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he was accused of the rape along with assaulting the alleged victim at an address in the east of the city.

The alleged offences were all committed at the weekend.

Baker, 26, of Inverwood Gardens, Belfast faces charges of burglary with intent to cause damage, rape, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He denies all of the allegations.

However, the accused’s solicitor said he was not in a position to seek bail for his client at this stage.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded Baker in custody to appear again by video link later this month.
