MAN TO FACE COURT OVER ‘SAVAGE’ STAB MURDER BID

A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in a house on Friday.

A 41-year-old man was stabbed in the leg and was taken to hospital for surgery after the attack in Newry’s Talbot Street.

A 22-year-old man who was also arrested has been released without charge.

The suspect is due to appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 27, for a first remand hearing.

Police earlier described the incident as “a savage attack” and said the victim has been left with “life-changing injuries”.

The Ambulance Service alerted police to the incident on Talbot Street at about 10.35 pm.
