LOCAL ATHLETES SHINE IN THE PENULTIMATE FIRMUS ENERGY FAB 5

AS many as 200 athletes made their way to the Mary Peters Track in Lagan Valley to compete in Northern Ireland’s largest athletic sporting event. Meet 4 of the series saw great success for Belfast athletes.

North Belfast Harriers were especially triumphant in the track events, with Orlaith Lynch and Saul Thompson placing first in the U11 Girls and the U13 Boys 100m races respectively.

St Malachy’s athlete’s dominated the podium when Adam Ferris scooped first place in the senior mixed 3000m race. Adam, who won with a time of 8.39.48, was followed to the podium by fellow athlete Tony McCambridge who finished the race in 8.45.35.

Representing St Anne’s Athletics club, Cayden Smith claimed his gold medal in the U13 Boys’ Javelin with a throw of 11.45m.

The firmus energy’s Fab 5 series is open to all budding athletes from across the region aged eight and up, for those who would like the opportunity to compete and try out field and track events.

John Glover from Lagan Valley Athletics Club added:

“We are always aiming to grow the series and attract young athletes from across Northern Ireland to take part.

“The fourth meet proved just how popular the Fab 5 series has become.

“I look forward to welcoming more athletes to the next event on 8th of August – it’s sure to be another successful event.”

Online registration for the next event in the firmus energy Fab 5 Series, which will take place on Thursday 8th August, is now open.
