Ciaran McAuley remanded in custody over sexual activity with a child

A BELFAST man was remanded in custody today charged with sexual activity with a child.

Ciaran James McAuley was arrested by police investigating an alleged serious assault in south Belfast last Friday.

McAuley, with an address on the Ormeau Road, also faces a further count of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) on the same date, June 21.

The 30-year-old faced Belfast Magistrates’ Court from the dock in handcuffs.

I t is alleged McAuley intentionally and sexually touched a child aged between 13 and 16 without their consent.

The breach of the SOPO charge allegedly involved being in the presence of children.

McAuley did not apply for bail and he was remanded him in custody to appear again by video-link next month.
