UPDATED NEWS: MAN ARRESTED OVER SHOP ROBBERY BID

DETECTIVES investigating an attempted armed robbery of commercial premises in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast last night have arrested a 28 year old man.

He has been detained on suspicion of a number of offences, including attempted robbery and handling stolen goods.

He is currently being quizzed at the PACE custody suite in Musgrave PSNI station in Belfast.

Earlier investigating officer Detective Sergeant Fairfield said: “It was reported that shortly before 10 pm a man entered a shop armed with what is believed to be a screwdriver and demanded money from the tills.

“The man assaulted a women who had been purchasing goods at the till.

“She was left shaken yet uninjured and the man made off empty handed.”

The suspect described as around 20 years old, wearing a blue hoody, blue and white trainers and a blue and white scarf over his face.
