ELDERLY PERSON LEFT BADLY SHAKEN AFTER THUGS STEAL JEWELLERY IN BURGLARY

DETECTIVES are investigating the report of a burglary at the home of an older person earlier this week.

The incident happened in the Windsor Road area of south Belfast on Tuesday, February 5, at around 7 pm.

Detective Sergeant Gill said: “Two male callers, who claimed they were at the property to fix the water, entered the home of the older man just before 7 pm.

“One stayed with the occupant, while the other ransacked a spare room.

“The two left when they were disturbed by a visitor and it is believed that a quantity of jewellery may have been stolen in the incident.

“The householder was not physically hurt but was left shaken by the ordeal.

“It is despicable that an older and vulnerable person should have been targeted in this way.

“We are investigating a possible link to a similar incident in the Park Avenue area of east Belfast reported around the same time.

“I am appealing to the community to help us identify those responsible.

“If you have any information, or witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area on Tuesday evening, please get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference 1072 of 05/02/19.”

Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
