MAN BRUTALLY ASSAULTED AND MURDERED IN EAST BELFAST NAMED AS IAN OGLE

Police cordon off murder scene at Cluan Place in east Belfast

THE man who was attacked, brutally assaulted and murdered in east Belfast last night has been named as Ian Ogle.

The 45 year old victim was found in Cluan Place on Sunday, January 27.

Police searches, believed to be linked to the investigation, are taking place on the lower Newtownards Road.

Less than a mile from the murder scene, the forensic experts have cordoned off an area near Pitt Place and put up a security tent.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter McKenna from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team, said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area of Cluan Place, Albertbridge Road or Templemore Avenue between 9 pm and 10 pm last night who may have any information which could assist us with our inquiries to make contact on 101 quoting reference number 1303 of  27/1/19.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have been in any of these areas and have dashcam footage to contact us.”

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
