DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in the Queen Victoria Gardens area of north Belfast during the early hours of this morning, Sunday, January 6.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: “Shortly after 12.20 am police received a report that a 32 year old man had been assaulted by a number of males with hammers or baseball bats.

“The man was taken to hospital for treatment for a suspected fracture to his skull and a deep cut to his head.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information which could assist us with our investigation to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 27 06/01/19.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
