THIRD MAN ARRESTED OVER ‘ONE-PUNCH’ MURDER OF PADRAIG FOX

29-year-old murder victim Padraig Fox

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’S Major Investigation Team investigating the murder of 29 year old Padraig Fox at the Burrendale Park Road area of Newcastle on Saturday 8th December, have this morning arrested a 20 year old man for perverting the course of justice.

Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Boyce, who is leading the investigation, said: “The man has been taken to Musgrave Police Station and is currently assisting with police enquiries.

“A 21 year old man and a 26 year old man appeared at Newtownards Court this morning having been charged with offences relating to the murder of Padraig Fox.”

Donach Rice, of Kilkeel Road in Annalong, was charged with Mr Fox’s murder during a hearing at Newtownards Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Another man, 26-year-old Paul Patrick Magennis, of Burrendale Park Road, was also in court on a charge of perverting the course of justice.

It is alleged that he and Mr Rice injured themselves with a knife to give the impression that the killing was in self-defence.

Neither man made a bail application.

They were remanded in custody and will appear in court again early next year.

Added DCI Boyce: ”
