POLICE say officers are currently at the scene of a security alert in east Belfast.

The alert was sparked by the discovery of a suspicious object at Madrid Street in the Short Strand area this morning, Thursday, June 28.

Army Technical Officers have been tasked to the scene.

The street has been closed to traffic and pedestrians.
