NOTHING FOUND IN BORDER SECURITY OPERATION, SAY POLICE

A security alert along the border has ended after a search found no device.

The alert centre on a stretch of road between Garrison and Belcoo in Co Fermanagh.

Inspector Rory Hoy said: “Police responded to a report that a suspect device had been left in the area at around 4:30pm on Sunday, 18th December.

“An operation was immediately put in place to secure the area, with a section of the Cashel Road closed from its junction with Lattone Road and the border closed to ensure the safety of the public whilst enquiries were conducted.

“ATO were tasked to the scene.

“Following a search of the area, nothing untoward was found.

“The safety of the community is of paramount importance and we will not take any risks.

“However, I want to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during this operation.

“Anyone with information about this incident, or who saw any suspicious activity in area in recent days, is asked to contact police on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference 1050  of 17/12/17.”
