MORE than 70 VIPs from the Northern Ireland travel and tourism industry gathered at The Belfast Mac this morning to launch the new website from the Province’s only dedicated travel publication.

For 27 years, since the monthly newspaper was founded in 1990, the Northern Ireland Travel News (NITN) has been a veritable ‘travel bible’ for readers, with more than 23,000 copies reaching the hands of the travelling public each month.

Now the company has invested heavily in upgrading its online platforms to provide both holidaymakers and travel trade with the latest news in the local industry and keep them up to date with all the latest travel-related products and holiday destinations, both abroad and closer to home.

“Over the last 27 years, Northern Ireland Travel News has set the standard in covering all the travel news for the trade and public,” said NITN director Jonathan Adair.

“We pride ourselves on quality and attention to detail and at this time we felt it necessary to invest in enhancing our online presence.

“Although the website, weekly ezines and social media have been around for a number of years, they did not compliment the reputation and standards we have achieved with the Northern Ireland Travel News and our Premier Travel Trade Events.

“So for that reason we have invested a lot of time and money to achieve the standards we strive for.

“Our new online platform is slicker, more advanced and more responsive,” he added.

“We’ve refreshed the content throughout and tied it all in with our social media activity, as well as introducing a fresher and more dynamic blog section so that we can keep users informed on where our writers are off to next and any useful insights we think are worth sharing.”

The hub of the website is a new Homepage which hosts a range of features from the top news stories of the day to the latest blogs, competitions, trade news and information on industry events.

With the increased use of mobile devices, the site has also been optimised for mobile and tablet viewing – which means that visitors should be able to access all content on the go.

NITN Online Editor Kirsty Johnston said: “The new website gives us a fantastic platform to build on as we aim, as always, to continue to develop our services and engagement with the public and travel trade.

“Whether it be the travel and tourism news and information service it can provide to the general public, or the commercial advertising options and opportunities we can offer our travel trade clients, NI Travel News Online is now at the forefront of travel communication in Northern Ireland.

“Of course, the printed edition will remain as important as ever to us and we will continue to make it available to the travelling public at travel agents, airports, ferry terminals, hotels and newsagents across Northern Ireland,” she added.
