NORTHERN IRELAND security firm Mercury Security Management has been appointed by multi-national retailer Harvey Norman to provide a comprehensive security solution for a number of its stores in the Republic of Ireland, including the new Tallaght store which opened earlier this week (Monday July 31).

The contract will see Mercury, which is headquartered in Lisburn with offices in Dublin, Limerick and London, provide a mix of manned guarding and innovative security systems with remote monitoring to four of the Australian retailer’s stores in the Greater Dublin area.

For the opening of the new Tallaght store, Mercury performed a complete technical fit-out which included the installation of an access control system, intruder alarm system and more than 150 CCTV cameras.

These will be monitored off site by Mercury’s award-winning NSI Gold ARC/RVRC Monitoring Centre, from where the company keeps a watchful eye over an ever-growing portfolio of retail clients which also includes Smyths Toys, HMV, Lifestyle Sports, Elverys Intersport, CastleCourt and a host of other prominent shopping centres.

In one of the company’s more unusual assignments, Mercury security guards in attendance at the grand opening in Tallaght were tasked with keeping a watchful eye over a €30,000 Smeg kettle, toaster and juicer set which was designed and hand painted by Dolce & Gabbana and flown over from Harrods in London especially for the event.

Liam Cullen, Mercury’s Regional Director UK and Ireland, said: “Harvey Norman is undoubtedly one of the largest retailers operating in Ireland and we are delighted to be providing security for their new Tallaght location as well as a number of other stores in Ireland.

“Over the past decade, we have invested more than £5 million in the latest technology and training available to enable us to provide innovative, integrated security solutions to our growing list of clients.

“This contract with Harvey Norman shows that our investment strategy is paying off and continues to place Mercury at the forefront of the security industry and a trusted partner for some of the world’s leading companies and retail organisations,” added Mr Cullen.

Michael Neary, Harvey Norman’s Loss Prevention Manager, said: “At Harvey Norman, the safety and security of our customers, staff and premises are always of the utmost priority, and it is important to us that our security operations are in safe and reliable hands.

“We were very impressed by Mercury’s innovative and forward-thinking approach to security and with their extensive experience and expertise, particularly in the retail industry, we are confident that our stores will be safe and secure.”
