LOCAL RETAILER TAKES ON 500 MILE TROLLEY PUSH FOR CANCER CHARITY

Store Manager Ian Elliott and staff from McCoolÕs SuperValu Ballymoney are putting their best ÔpawÕ forward by taking on an almighty trolley dash Ð 500 miles in 10 days - to raise £10,000 for Action Cancer. Led by an Action Cancer bear mascot, eight members of staff from the popular shop will set out on an arduous walk and cycle around Northern Ireland, calling in at all 34 SuperValu shops in the Province, to raise vital funds for Action CancerÕs Big Bus, which is sponsored by SuperValu and is this year celebrating its 10th birthday. The team will set off from the SuperValu store in Kells on September 10th and after travelling the length and breadth of the country will finish in Belfast on September 19th. McCOOL’S SuperValu, Ballymoney is putting its best ‘paw’ forward by taking on an almighty trolley dash – 500 miles in 10 days – to raise £10,000 for Action Cancer.

Led by an Action Cancer bear mascot, eight members of staff from the popular shop will set out on an arduous walk and cycle around Northern Ireland, calling in at all 34 SuperValu shops in the Province, to raise vital funds for Action Cancer’s Big Bus, which is sponsored by SuperValu and is this year celebrating its 10th birthday.

The team will set off from the SuperValu store in Kells on September 10 and after travelling the length and breadth of the country will finish in Belfast on September 19.

During the 10 day challenge, the staff remaining at SuperValu Ballymoney will be doing their bit to support the team on the road with fundraising events and competitions for customers.

Speaking of the challenge, McCool’s SuperValu Ballymoney store manager, Ian Elliott said, “We wanted to do something different to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Action Cancer’s Big Bus, which is dedicated to saving lives and supporting people across local communities in Northern Ireland.

“Walking and cycling 500 miles to raise £10,000 across 10 days will be a real challenge for the team but we’ve already had great support from many of the SuperValu stores we’re visiting and are looking forward to meeting people and raising vital funds along the way.

“I would encourage everyone to follow our route on our Facebook page and come out and show your support to help us meet the fundraising target,” he added.

The SuperValu team will head off on their journey from Kells at 6am on September 10, travelling North through Ballymoney and Portstewart. They will then head West through Limavady and Derry~Londonderry before moving South towards Omagh, Cookstown and Newry. Setting out East bound they will finish by going through Newcastle and finally up to Belfast.

The conclusion of the mammoth challenge will come on Monday September 19 when the team visit Action Cancer House in Belfast before arriving at Musgrave Northern Ireland HQ.
