POLICE PROBE ‘HAMMER ATTACK’ ON MAN IN WEST BELFAST

police crime scene pic 1DETECTIVES are investigating a brutal attack in which the victim may have been battered with a hammer.

Officers say they are probing the assault on a 24-year-old man in the Shankill estate area of  west Belfast last night, Saturday, August 27.

Police say that shortly after 11 pm officers received a report that the man had been assaulted by a group of unknown males and that “it is believed a hammer may have been used in this assault”.

Detective Sergeant Michelle Griffin said she is appealing to anyone who witnessed this assault to contact the Case Progression Team at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1667 27/08/16.

She added: “Police would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed any anti-social behaviour or vehicles being driven dangerously in that area at the time of this incident to also contact them.
