THERE was definitely a holiday atmosphere at Belfast International Airport this morning as Jet2.com and Jet2holidays celebrated their inaugural flight to Fuerteventura which jetted off for sunny skies at 10.00am.

With weekly flights now departing every Wednesday until November 16, 2016, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are the only operators to offer Northern Ireland holidaymakers a choice of all four Canary Islands (Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Gran Canaria).

Promotional staff dressed in t-shirts, shorts, flippers, goggles and snorkels greeted holidaymakers at check-in this morning, handing out Jet2holidays beach balls to everyone flying off to the new destination which is famed for its white sandy beaches and popular for a range of water sports such as surfing, windsurfing and waterskiing.

Fuerteventura boasts an average of approximately 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, making it the perfect destination for those looking to escape the bleak Northern Ireland weather, whatever time of year.

But it’s not just the sizzling temperatures and the vast expanses of white sandy beaches that attract families to the quieter Canary Island year after year.

Corralejo, once a small fishing village, is now one of the busiest resorts on the island bustling with shops and restaurants, great for all the family.

Costa Caleta is a purpose built resort with a fantastic marina and plenty of shopping.  The resort is also home to the island’s only golf courses.

Jandia is the third of the main resorts and, with its scattering of luxury hotels, offers a more relaxing escape – perfect for a little bit of pampering in the sun.

A ‘windsurfer’s paradise’, Jandia also appeals to those wanting to do more than laze on their sun lounger – though spectators can also join in by simply watching the annual windsurfing championships.
