HATCHET-WIELDING MAN ROBS NORTH BELFAST SHOP

Police car collectDETECTIVES are hunting a man armed with a hatchet who robbed a shop in north Belfast.

Police say the man threatened staff and escaped from the premises on the Serpentine Road with cigarettes and a sum of cash.

No staff members were injured during the terrifying incident which happened just before 7.30 pm last night, Sunday, November 1.

The suspect was described as being of medium build with fair skin and was wearing a blue coat.

A man was arrested later on Sunday evening in relation to this incident and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Nigel Snoddy said: “We are appealing for information about this incident and a further incident which occurred on Saturday 31 October at a shop on the Antrim Road.

“On this occasion a man entered the store at around 7.20pm, armed with a hammer, and demanded cash which was handed over by staff.

“Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of either incident.”
