IT will be a night to remember at Windsor Park for the 11,700 FANS who packed into the south Belfast ground.
Not since 1986 has the Green and White Army qualified for a major footballing championship.
Captain fantastic Steven Davis got a brace that put the GAWA on the road to France 2016.
Davis doesn’t score too many goals at international level.
But tonight at Windsor Park the midfielder gave Northern Ireland a 1-0 lead over lowly Greece at half time
Davis’s goal came on 41 minutes – his first in 13 internationals.
And what a crucial goal that was.
Then Josh Magennis got the second and the Windsor Park ground was bouncing as the fans started to believe France was no longer just a dream but a reality.
And Steven Davis got a third, and his second, and that it was it – Windsor Park erupted!!!
Greece got a consolation goal in the dying minutes but it was too little too later.
So manager John O’Neill has done what only Billy Bingham has done in modern times – got the GAWA into a major tournament.
Northern Ireland play Finland away on Sunday but it doesn’t matter.
O’Neill’s heroes have confirmed their place in the Euro finals next summer.
