POLICE PROBE BELFAST CITY CENTRE SHOP RAM RAID BID

Police car collectPOLICE are appealing for information following a burglary attempt at a shop in the Wellington Place area of Belfast.

A white Volkswagen Passat, which had earlier been stolen from the Bangor area, drove into the shutter of the shop at approximately 3.30 am on Sunday morning.

The shutter remained intact though the window of the premises was smashed.

An electric junction box on the street was also damaged. Nothing was taken in the incident.

The car was later found on fire in the Roumania Rise area of West Belfast.

Inspector Darren Hardy said: “I would ask anyone with any information about this incident, or anyone who would have seen the car, to contact Lisburn Road Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
