DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team are questioning a man over the murder of IRA chief Jock Davison.

Police said that the 25-year-old man was arrested today “in connection with the overall investigation into the murder”.

He is currently being questioned at the serious crime suite at Antrim Police Station.

Father-of-two Jock Davison was gunned down in the Markets district of south Belfast in May this year.

The 47-year-old had left a shop in Welsh Street after buying his morning newspaper when a gunman approached from behind and shot him in the back.

As he lay on the ground, the killer fired four shots into his face from a Russian officer’s Makarov pistol.

Police believe it was one of three guns smuggled bought from eastern European criminals and then smuggled into Belfast.

Three men previously arrested in connection with the murder were later released.
