DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team (MIT) have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a mum-of-three in a house fire in west Belfast yesterday.

Jennifer Dornan was found dead after a fire broke out in her home in the Lagmore area of Dunmurry on Sunday, August 2.

The 30-year-old’s three children were staying with their grandparents on Saturday night when the flames licked through her home.

This evening, a a PSNI spokeswoman said: “Police this evening launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 30 year old woman’s body in a house fire in the Lagmore area of Dunmurry, yesterday, Sunday, 2 August.

“The victim was 30 year old Jennifer Dornan, a mother of three whose body was found in her home at Hazel View after the alarm was raised at 5am.

“Detectives are appealing to members of the community who saw Jennifer on Saturday night when she was socialising with friends or in the early hours of Sunday morning as she walked home to contact them on 101.”

The officer leading the hunt for Jennifer’s killer, Det Supt Kevin Geddes, said Ms Dornan left behind three children all aged under nine who do not understand what has happened to their mother.

He appealed for help from the public to catch her killer.

“Jennifer had been on a night out with friends at the Devenish complex on Finaghy Road North on Saturday night,” they said.

“They left at around 1.30am and went back to a friend’s house close to her own home to continue socialising. At 3 am she left her friend’s house and walked the short distance home.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw Jennifer in the bar on Saturday night or Sunday morning or who saw her walking in the Hazel View area between 3 and 4 am on Sunday morning to come forward.

“I also want to hear from anyone who saw other people walking in the area around this time, particularly in Hazel View.

“At around this time a small silver car is seen speeding away from Hazel View. This could be completely unconnected but we need the driver or any passengers to come forward.”

A vigil has been held on Monday night in memory of Ms Dornan.

Earlier today, over £10,000 was raised by people online to help towards her funeral costs and to help with the upbringing of her children – aged eight, six and four.
