DETECTIVES are investigating an attempted arson attack last night.

A flammable liquid was poured over the door of a flat in Cleary Crescent, Newry at about 9.15 pm with a plastic bottle then set alight, damaging the door.

The flat was empty at the time but a neighbour was treated for smoke inhalation.

Insp Jon Burrows said police are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone who was in the area at the time to contact detectives at Ardmore CID on the 101 non-emergency number.
