POLICE WARNING AFTER MISSILES THROWN AT CARS IN WEST BELFAST

police crime scene pic 1THE PSNI have issued a warning after missiles have been thrown at traffic by young people in the Falls Park area of west Belfast.

Police say there will be consequences for those involved in the anti-social behaviour.

Officers attended the scene on Friday night after receiving a number of reports of youths drinking, burning bins and throwing objects towards passing traffic.

The area was then cleared by officers.

Inspector David McBride has warned young people to be aware of the consequences of anti-social behaviour in their area and the effect it can have on the everyday lives of residents in the local community.

“Throwing objects at passing traffic is also a very dangerous activity. If a bottle or stone were to hit a passing vehicle it could shatter the windscreen, injure the driver or cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

“You might think that it is just fooling around but it can result in a serious incident or a criminal record which can affect travel, education and employment opportunities in the future.

“I would also ask parents to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing when they are not at home.

“I would ask parents and others with influence to support us in educating teenagers about what is and is not acceptable behaviour.”

Anyone with any information about the incident, which happened between 9pm and 10pm, is asked to contact Woodbourne Police on the 101 non emergency number.
