THREE CHARGED AFTER PSNI OFFICERS INJURED BY STOLEN CAR IN WEST BELFAST

police crime scene pic 1A MAN and two teenagers have charged with a rake of offences after a stolen car chase in west Belfast.

Two police officers were injured before the car was finally brought to a halt on Monday evening.

The chase started after a car was stolen from a doctor’s surgery in the Clifton Street area of north Belfast at some stage on Monday afternoon.

Police believe the same car may have been involved in thefts that occurred in commercial premises in the Rosemary Street and Boucher Crescent areas.

The PSNI launched its helicopter into the skies and the vehicle was spotted in the Springfield Road area just before 5.40pm and was followed by officers from the PSNI Auto Crime Unit.

A police statement said: “The car reversed into the police vehicle in the Iris Street area, causing damage to the car and injury to two officers.

“The stolen car then came to a stop in the Gortfin Street area.”

It added that the officers’ injuries are not life threatening.

This morning the three arrested have now been charge.

Outlining a number of charges linked to car related crime in West Belfast, Chief Inspector Anthony McNally said:

“A 29 year old man has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, causing damage to another vehicle, dangerous driving, two counts of theft, two counts of burglary, failing to stop where an accident occurred causing damage and failing to remain where an accident occurred causing damage and failing to report where an accident occurred causing damage, driving whilst disqualified and driving without a licence. The 29 year old is scheduled to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on 09 February 2015.

“A 16 year old male has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, causing damage to another vehicle, dangerous driving, two counts of theft, two counts of burglary, failing to stop where an accident occurred causing damage and failing to remain where an accident occurred causing damage and failing to report where an accident occurred causing damage. The 16 year old is scheduled to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on 09 February 2015.

“A 15 year old male have been charged aggravated vehicle taking, causing damage to another vehicle, two counts of theft and two counts of burglary and possession of Class B drugs. The 15 year old male is scheduled to appear before the Youth Court on 09 February 2014.

“We are committed to tackling car related crime and these arrests and charges are a clear indication of how we are working to keep people safe.”

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
