Patients move after smoke alert Altnagelvin Hospital

OVER 20 patients were transferred from a ward at Altnagelvin Hospital this morning after smoke was reported to be coming from a bed pan washer.

The Western Trust said 21 patients were safely transferred from Ward 5 and had been resettled elsewhere within the hospital.

The Trust said it was “envisaged that the ward will return to normal business later today.”

A spokesperson added: “The Western Trust would like to thank its staff and the Emergency Services for their prompt response to the incident.”
