THIS is the huge cocaine haul seized by cops in a delivery of furniture to Northern Ireland.

Police said 50kg of the drug was found at commercial premises in County Tyrone on Tuesday.

Officers identified two suitcases packed with bags of white powder that tested as cocaine.

A senior PSNI detective said: “A conservative value for this haul would be £2.5m. A street value would be substantially higher.”

The drugs were taken under a heavy armed guard to the Northern Ireland Forensic Science Service in Carrickfergus for examination.

The hunt is now on for those who imported the drugs and bring them to court.

Justice Minister David Ford said the seizure “will undoubtedly prevent more misery and possibly save lives”.

“We must never become complacent about the dangers of illegal drugs, because they ruin lives and can ruin communities,” he said.

“I would thank and congratulate all those involved in the recovery of the drugs and would urge anyone with information to pass it to the PSNI or to the Crimestoppers Charity on 0800 555 111.”
