POLICE officers who arrested a Christmas shoplifter at retail premises in north Belfast on Monday afternoon have seized a large amount of suspected stolen goods in a follow up search operation.

Shortly before 4 pm on Monday, November 24, security staff at premises on Longwood Road detained the woman and alerted police after noticing suspicious activity.

Officers searched the woman’s car, and after arresting her, carried out a follow up search at a house in the Crumlin Road area of north Belfast.

They discovered a considerable amount of goods, such as clothing, confectionary and soft drinks with an estimated retail value of £2,000. The items were seized as part of the investigation.

PSNI Area Commander Chief Inspector Stephen Reid said: “This arrest and seizure of suspected stolen goods shows the benefits of partnership working between police and commercial premises which is always vital, but even more so just before Christmas when criminal elements are making daring attempts to make money fast.

“Suspicious activity should always be acted upon so PSNI officers can act swiftly in an effort to detain a suspect or seize items that could be vital to a criminal investigation.”
