TWO have been remanded in custody after police gave chase to a car which failed to stop.

The PSNI’s helicopter was drafted in to assist to crews on the ground who were in pursuit of the vehicle.

A spokesman said: “The pursuit started in Cookstown, but after a brief tour of the country roads around Newmills, Stewartstown, Coalisland and Tamnamore, ended when an officer successfully deployed a stinger and brought the vehicle to a safe stop.

“The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, assisting an offender unlawfully at large, no driving licence and no insurance.

“The passenger was arrested for being unlawfully at large. They were taken to court this morning and remanded in custody.

“Great teamwork from officers in Cookstown and Dungannon, a dog handler and, of course, our colleagues in the air!”
