MAN TO FACE COURT THIS MORNING ON AK47 ASSAULT RIFLE CHARGE

Laganside Court houseDETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit have charged a 29-year-old man with having a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

He was arrested on the Grosvenor Road in west Belfast on Thursday after police stopped a seven-seater taxi and recovered an AK47 assault rifle and ammunition.

The accused is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court this morning, Monday, November 24, for a first remand hearing.

Three men arrested in a follow-up operation in the Springfield Road area have all been released unconditionally.

Part of the Grosvenor Road was closed for a time on Thursday night and the early hours of Friday.

In a follow up operation police arrested three men on the Springfield Road.

They are all released unconditionally yesterday following two days of questioning at the serious crime suite in Antrim.
