DETECTIVES in south Belfast are investigating the hijacking of a car in the Salisbury Street area of the Dublin Road last night.

Police say that at around 7.45 pm, a man opened the driver’s door of a white Audi A3 as the woman driver was parking it in the street.

He grabbed the woman and forced her from the vehicle before driving off in it.

The woman was left bruised following the incident.

Detective Inspector Pete Mullan said: “The man was described as being between 18 and 25 years old, of slim build with a Belfast accent.

“He was wearing a dark coloured hat with a scarf covering his face. The car has since been recovered in the Jamaica Street area of north Belfast.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident in Salisbury Street or who noticed the car being driven in the Jamaica Street area to contact CID in Musgrave on 101.

“Information can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
