POLICE are investigating after a man was stabbed in the back and struck on the head with a hammer in north Belfast.

The 26-year-old was confronted by three masked men at Victoria Parade at about 11.50 pm on Saturday night.

Insp Roy Burnside said they attacked him “after asking for another man by name”.

He was treated in hospital for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police appealed for anyone with information to contact them on the 101 non-emergency number.
