POLICE have charged a 34-year-old man with rape.

It follows an investigation after a woman in her 30s made a complaint that she had been seriously sexually assaulted while walking home in the early hours of yesterday morning, Sunday, October 19.

The woman told detectives the incident happened in the Limavady Road area of Derry.

During extensive follow up enquiries, a man was later arrested and taken to custody suite at Strand Road.

The man was charged with the offence of rape by detectives from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch.

He is due to appear at Derry Magistrates Court this morning.
