HALLOWEEN is coming and independent retail group Centra is encouraging customers to donate their pennies as they attempt to raise a fang-tastic £80,000 for Action Cancer.

Eighty Centra stores across Northern Ireland will take on a range of spook-tacular fundraising activities for staff and customers from October 27 to November 2 to raise funds for the local cancer charity including fancy dress, apple dunking and pumpkin carving competitions and Halloween themed deli days.

The funds raised by Centra staff and customers will benefit Action Cancer’s Health Action health programme for young people, which is sponsored by Centra and its independent retail partners across Northern Ireland. Health Action has been designed to educate young people on healthier lifestyles, including exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking and alcohol.

Over the past 11 years, Centra stores have donated over £1 million to Action Cancer and their annual fundraising week is an important date each year to boost their fundraising total.

This year customers are encouraged to support the challenge by visiting their local Centra store throughout the week and enjoying the Halloween madness that is taking place, benefitting from the great Halloween offers and making that all important donation.

Nikki McDowell, Centra Brand Manager, said: “We are delighted to continue our support for Action Cancer through fundraising week, which is a fantastic opportunity for Centra retailers and customers to work together in raising much needed funds for the local charity.

“Recent shopping research from Mintel has revealed that trick-or-treat confectionary is the most popular Halloween purchase and that shoppers are driven by price and convenience when purchasing their Halloween goodies so Centra stores are the perfect place for customers to get stocked up with treats and help a worthy cause at the same time,” she added.

MRPNI supports over 250 independent Centra, SuperValu and Mace retail stores in Northern Ireland, with a combined turnover in excess of £600 million.  MRPNI is part of the Musgrave Group, the leading partner to more than 3,500 entrepreneurial retailers and food service professionals in the UK, Ireland and Spain.
