NORTH Belfast DUP MLA William Humphrey has condemned the armed robbery which occurred this morning inside the Shankill Road Ulster Bank branch.

He said he was “disgusted” to hear of about the armed robbery.

“Men arriving to deposit takings from Mountainview Social Club were robbed by a man who followed them into the bank and threatened them with a machete,” said the MLA.

“The robber escaped in a car parked in Northumberland Street. It is reported that the car was driven by a woman and contained another two men.

“The car was subsequently discovered abandoned in the Divis area of lower Falls and has been recovered by the police.

“The robber threatened these older men with a machete. It is a relief that no-one was injured though this will have been a traumatic experience for them.

“The low-lifes who planned and carried out this robbery are dangerous criminal thugs who must be taken off our streets.

“I appeal to anyone who can assist the police investigation into this crime to bring that information forward without delay.

“Mountainview Social Club is a valuable and popular resource in the community. It can ill afford to lose takings in this manner. I have spoken to Club officers and have expressed my deep concern following this crime.”
