OLDPARK DUP Councillor Gareth McKee has condemned an arson attack which caused scorch damage to the Jolly Roger convenience store on Alliance Road, north Belfast.

The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Commenting on the attack, Councillor McKee said:
“This was an appalling attack on a local shop which provides a valuable and popular service to the local community. There can be no justification for this mindless attack in this settled residential area.

!It appears that a wheelie bin was placed close to the property and set on fire. Fortunately only scorch damage was caused but this reckless criminal act had the potential to destroy a valuable community asset and cause significant disruption to the local community.

!Having spoken to local people about this attack they are totally disgusted and view it as an attack on the wider community. I appeal to anyone who can assist the police investigation into this crime to pass that information on without delay.”
