PROTESTANT TEEN ASSAULTED IN SECTARIAN BUS ATTACK

Police scene armed copPOLICE are appealing for information following a sectarian assault on a 16-year-old college student.

The attack happened in the Woodvale area of Belfast this morning, Thursday, 11th September.

It is reported that at around 8.50am, Stuart Buchanan was travelling to work on a bus when he was approached by four males who grabbed him and then punched him repeatedly.

Area Commander for North Belfast, Chief Inspector Bobby Singleton, said: “This was a disgusting attack on a young man who was doing nothing more than trying to get to his work.

“The young man has attended hospital for injuries to his face which are not thought to be life threatening and officers are now taking a statement of complaint from him.

“Police are treating this as a sectarian hate crime and will be carrying out a thorough investigation.

“I appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident which took place on the number 11A Metro bus which left Ballysillan Park travelling towards the Shankill Road at 8.50 this morning, or to anyone who can provide assistance, to please call the non-emergency number, 101 and ask to speak with officers in Tennent Street.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111”, he said.
