MAN ARRESTED OVER ROAD RAGE ASSAULT

Police crime scene picPOLICE have arrested a man over a road rage attack at the weekend.

The 37 year old man was detained today in connection with the assault on the driver of a silver Vauxhall Vectra in Orritor Street, Cookstown last Saturday.

During the assault the 34-year-old victim suffered a fit.

A police spokeswoman said: “Superintendent Alwyn Barton has confirmed that a 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault on the driver of the Corsa car.”

The PSNI say the victim was involved in a “verbal altercation” with a man driving a black Audi A4 in Coagh Street, Cookstown.

Both men then got out of their cars in Orritor Street, where the Audi driver punched the victim, causing him to lose consciousness and then suffered a fit.

Paramedics attended the scene the man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police were called to the area around 4.35 pm on Saturday.

However, the man who allegedly attacked the victim had left the scene before the emergency services arrived.

Police later issued an appeal for information about the road rage incident in a bid to identify the Audi car driver.

He was described as around 6ft 1in tall, and well-built with short, dark hair.

The suspect was wearing high-visibility trousers and a black fleece top.
