ELDERLY residents in a care home have been moved to sarfety and a number of houses have been evacuated due to a security alert.

The move followed the discovery of a suspicious object on Ballymena Road, Ballymoney, this morning.

Residents in the care home have been moved another another part of the complex as the alert is being dealt with.

Army technical officers and police are at the scene of the and motorists have been advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.

The Ballymena Road has been closed in both directions. Part of Kilraghts Road and Garryduff Road have also been shut.
