FIRE crews from Larne station were tasked after to a report of a male trapped on the sandbank near the pier in Larne harbour.

A 20 year old man was assisted by firefighters and ambulance personnel after he had pulled himself from the water but suffered the effects of hypothermia.

Paramedics treated him for mild hypothermia at the scene.

The casualty was transported to hospital by ambulance.
