Murdered drug dealer Kevin Kearney

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit have released a 42-year-old man arrested over the murder north Belfast drug dealer Kevin Kearney.

The man was arrested in Newtownabbey on Thursday afternoon and taken to the serious crime suite in Antrim for questioning.

He was also questioned about a gun attack two month later on police.park and a gun attack on a police patrol has been released without charge.

Kevin Kearney’s body was found in a lake at Alexandra Park a day after he had been shot while walking his dogs on October 8, 2013.

The so-called ‘New IRA’ later claimed responsibility for the murder.

Mr Kearney was a 46-year-old father of four and was well known to detectives.

Two police vehicles were hit by shots from an automatic rifle on the Crumlin Road in north Belfast on 5 December.

While there have been several arrests, no-one has been charged over his murder.
