Mother appears in court charged with murdering infant child

A woman has faced a court accused of murdering her infant son in east Belfast last month.

The 30-year-old mother as charged by detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team probing the child’s death in the Royal Victoria Hosptial Wednesday, April 9.

The baby was found injured in an incident at a house in Connsbrook Avenue area in March.

A district judge at Belfast Magistrates’ Court imposed reporting restrictions banning the the woman’s identity being published in the media.

The media reporting ban was imposed following an application by a defence barrister under the Human Rights Act.

The woman was arrested and then detained under the Mental Health Act last week after the child died.

After being charged with murder she was brought before Belfast Magistrates’ Court at short notice on Thursday afternoon from Musgrave Street PSNI station.

She was then remanded back into medical care.

The mother is due to appear again in court next month.
