Serious crime suite in Antrim

‘WAKING The Dead’ detectives have released man arrested in connection with the murder of a Protestant building contractor 38 years ago pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

John McCready, 58, was shot a number of times as he walked home from a club along the Cavehill Road in north Belfast in January 1976.

He died in hospital ten days later.

The 56-year-old man was arrested in north Belfast on Monday by detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit.

He was being questioned at the serious crime suite in Antrim.
