DETECTIVES have charged two men following a covert security operation in west Belfast.
Belfast Daily understands police were monitoring the activities of dissident republicans when they swooped on Saturday.
The operation is believed to have foiled a possible attack on a passing PSNI mobile patrol.
The men, aged 38 and 25, have been charged with possession of explosives and will face Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.
The charges follow a security alert at a children’s play park at White Rise in the Lagmore estate on the outskirts of west Belfast early on Saturday morning.
A number of items, including a suspected pipe bomb, were removed from the scene.
A 27-year-old man also arrested in relation to the incident has been released.
About a dozen families, totalling 100 people, were moved from their homes during the alert.
