A security alert is ongoing in Carrickfergus on Christmas Eve.

Police were called to the Co Antrim scene following the discovery of a suspicious package in Davy Street.

Army technical officers are currently at the scene examining the suspicious object.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area while the alert is ongoing.
